The story of the film ‘Dream Girl 2’ fits in the same groove in which its predecessor film ‘Dream Girl’ was fitted with lots of spices. The gist of the previous film is that Karamveer, the young son of a middle-aged funeral goods seller in Mathura, wanders here and there in search of a job and gets a job in one such call center. The call center is friendly to people on the phone and in this, Karamveer takes on a female voice and becomes the fictional character Pooja. Mahi is his girlfriend and the film ends with Karamveer in Radha’s getup giving a message to the people to get out of the mobile phone and have a real conversation
Mathura resident Anil Sharma’s film ‘Gadar 2’ at the box office, ‘Dream Girl 2’, a film based on Gadar, is also a film made on the background of Mathura. The film’s writer-director Raaj Shaandilyaa has been in the news in recent times for alleged plagiarism. First, the case of the film ‘Janhit Mein Jaari’ was dragged to the court and somehow the case was settled by giving lakhs of rupees to the prosecutrix writer. Now he has been accused in another case. As far as his writing ability is concerned, his art of one line dialogues and finding humor in everyday life is unmatched. But, the criterion of making a sequel of a hit film, the film ‘Dream Girl 2’ seems to be staggering. Raj has tried his best to make the film entertaining but the flavor that Karamveer and Mahi’s story had, is missing from Karamveer and Pari’s story. The abundance of artists has also been making the film up and down, but it has more hiccups and less joy than a carousel.
The film ‘Dream Girl 2’ rests entirely on the shoulders of actor Ayushmann Khurrana. He is the hero of the film and she is the heroine. Her dedication and hard work towards acting is evident in the roles of Karam Singh and Pooja. But, it is said that excess is forbidden everywhere. So after coming to a point the charm of worship starts disintegrating. From Paresh Rawal, Annu Kapoor and Rajpal Yadav to Manoj Joshi, Seema Pahwa, Vijay Raj, Abhishek Banerjee, Manjot Singh, there is a whole procession of comedians in the film to put a plaster on this crumbling tilism of Pooja, but comedy films like Dada Kondke would have been made. The charm of ‘Dream Girl 2’ gradually wears off.
Actress Ananya Pandey, who is getting films only because of her legacy, is the weakest link in the film ‘Dream Girl 2’. His presence or absence on the screen, both do not have any special effect in the film. It is clear that his acting does not come to the fore under the pressure of memorizing the dialogues. Neither does she understand the need of the scene nor the depth of her dialogues. On this occasion, the audience misses Nusrat Bharucha, the heroine of the film ‘Dream Girl’ a lot. This is the sixth film of Ananya Pandey as the lead heroine and till now she is yet to prove that the audience can come to see the film in her name. She still needs to work hard as an actress. Not only is he weak in acting, his handsome looks have also failed to enthrall the audience yet again.
The rest of the film’s technical team, cinematographers CK Muraleedharan and Jeetan Harmeet Singh have shot the climax scene of the film very beautifully, when Pari arrives at Karam Singh’s house with her wedding procession. Editor Hemal Kothari has also worked hard but the film becomes loose in the fairy scenes, in fact this character is no longer needed in the story. The team handling make-up and costume work has contributed well to the film ‘Dream Girl 2’.
